Hay Guard is introduced

Hay Guard containers.jpg (10588 bytes)

Vigortone introduces a new product called Hay Guard.  Hay Guard is a formula containing a patented combination of sulfur salts, which inhibits molds and yeasts.

The use of Hay Guard in high moisture alfalfa hay allows baling at higher moistures (22-25%) resulting in many benefits:

ü      Higher quality hay.

ü      Harvest more hay per acre.

ü     Increases leaf retention dramatically.  Leaves have 90% of the vitamins and 70% of the protein in the alfalfa.

ü      Retains the green color for better appearance.

Other benefits:

ü     Hay Guard reduces mold and yeast.

ü     Reduces heating.

ü      Reduces dry matter losses.

All of the above benefits result in more dollars for you, regardless if you are using the hay or selling it.  Hay Guard can be used with other hay crops also.

The application rate is two pounds of Hay Guard per ton of baled hay using an applicator on the baler.  Moisture content should be 22% or less on large square bales and 25% or less on large round or small square bales.  Your Vigortone Area Sales Manager can provide you with applicator information and prices.

Hay Guard contains no bacteria.  All ingredients in Hay Guard are on the GRAS list. (Generally Regarded As Safe)  It contains no acid ingredients or drugs and requires no special handling.  The most commonly used product currently used for preserving hay is prop ionic acid.  The Environmental Protection Agency has requirements for certain users of prop ionic acid to be licensed.  There are no such concerns with Hay Guard.  The cost of using Hay Guard is about one-half of the cost of using prop ionic acid.

The use of hay Guard is backed by various research studies.  Ask your Vigortone Area Sales Manager for more information.
