1912
|
Dr. E.B. Fenton, a practicing
veterinarian, started selling "Vigorton" to Eastern Iowa
farmers.
Dr. Fenton had established a reputation with winning racehorses. Local
farmers wanted him to mix vitamin and mineral mixes for their livestock as
Dr. Fenton had for his horses. |
 |
1920s
|
Dr. Fenton established his
Farmer-Dealer distribution system where a Vigortone Farmer-Dealer would
sell to a neighboring farmer.
The growing business was too much for Dr. Fenton to handle alone. |
 |
1960s
|
Vigortone vitamin mineral premix sales
exploded.
Farm mixers driven by power takeoff drives from farm tractors burst upon
scene. Vigortone vitamin-mineral premixes were easily mixed with local
grains and protein sources to manufacture economical livestock feeds on
the farm. |
1970s
|
New manufacturing plants were built to
accommodate accelerating sales in 40+ states.
Vigortone's focus was on "better feed for less" for their
customers using Vigortone premix plus soybean meal, compared to commercial
feed supplements. |
1981
|
Vigortone introduces custom mixes.
As Vigortone hired more nutritionists, increased demands for
specialization required more products for special needs. |
1980s
|
New beef products were introduced.
Vigortone sales continued to grow outside of the grain belt. This required
more emphasis on dairy and beef products. |
1993
|
Vigortone developed computerized
ration balancing programs for use by sales personnel.
Obtaining new business required faster and more accurate ration
formulation "on the run." |
1995
|
A new manufacturing plant was built in
Weatherford, Texas.
To better serve the growing beef range business in the Southwest. |
1998
|
Vigortone was purchased by Provimi, a
company active world-wide in all types of animal nutrition.
Provimi manufactures products and supplies technical support for all
species, including ruminants, poultry, swine, fish, and pets. Vigortone
was purchased to add to Provimi's innovative products serving both the
nutritional and health needs of all animal species. |
2002
|
Harry Gettelman became
Business Unit Manager of Vigortone Ag Products.
Changes in the farm economy, especially in the grain belts, and loss of
livestock on farms, required reorganizing Vigortone under strong
leadership. Plants were closed and the sales force was restructured. |
2003
|
Vigortone Ag Products experienced
significant sales and service growth.
Increased emphasis was put on dairy, beef, and specialty business. |
2010 (Projected)
|
Vigortone continues to introduce new
products/programs.
Provimi's global leadership relies heavily on the successful
implementation of its world-wide cutting edge R & D. This is
collaborated with universities and independent research institutes and
shared with the global group of brands under Provimi |
