Calf- Vitamin/Mineral Supplements

Like many adolescents, calves are generally finicky eaters, but the potential growth and high nutrient demands present challenges. Getting the calf to eat a grain mix (starter) aids rumen development and facilitates weaning. Calves generally do not like fine particles or dust and do like a little sweetener but not too much. Flaked, roasted or whole corn usually works best. Oats provide another source of carbohydrates, and research has shown improved performance with inclusion of oats. Vigortone provides flexibility in developing a calf starter to match anyone's needs.

The table below shows how you can build a high quality starter, using one of the quality Vigortone Products.

Replacement heifers should reach 82-90% of the mature weight before calving by 24 months of age. To achieve these goals, it is essential that replacement heifers be managed properly and receive properly fortified diets. Nutrition for the young calf is particularly challenging because the rumen is a work in progress.

Vigortone Kalf 34% KA2404R Medicated contains calcium necessary for strong bone development and other body functions. Phosphorus is necessary for optimum energy utilization, reproductive performance, and fiber digestion. Kalf 34% KA2404R also contains magnesium and a specially formulated blend of trace minerals including cobalt, copper, iodine, iron, manganese, selenium, and zinc. Vitamins A, D, and E play key roles in the maintenance of optimum health, growth, and reproductive performance. In adult cows B vitamins are manufactured through rumen fermentation; however, the rumen is still developing in the calf, so B vitamins are added to Kalf 34% KA2404R.
