Protect Your Investment with Vigortone Vigorsile Silage Inoculants

Your silage is an investment in your feeding program. Its value may range between $20 and $40 per ton. High quality silage can be the basis for high performance and production. Vigortone silage inoculants allow you to protect your investment and its value to your farm by controlling heat and damaged protein, decreasing seepage and dry matter loss, increasing bunk life, and therefore improve animal production.

Average Dry Matter Losses During Storage and Feedout
  Average % Dry Matter Loss Average $ Loss per 1,000 T Alfalfa ($40/T) Average $ Loss per 1,000 T Corn ($25/T)
Bunker 16% $6,400 $4,000
Upright Silo 11% $4,400 $2,750
Bag 11% $4,400 $2,750

Silage fermentation is a process whereby bacteria convert water-soluble carbohydrates to organic acids. The most desirable acid is lactic acid. Good fermentation is desirable for proper storage and feeding.

Factors necessary for good fermentation:

  • anaerobic conditions (no air)
  • proper moisture
  • sufficient plant water-soluble carbohydrates or sugars
  • proper bacteria

The purpose of silage inoculant is to ensure adequate quantities of lactic acid-producing bacteria. This aids in more efficient production of lactic acid which helps to lower the pH level quickly.

Vigorsile III

Legumes and small grain silage normally have a fairly low content of water-soluble carbohydrates Therefore, it is critical to efficiently convert these carbohydrates to lactic acid quickly while minimizing production of other organic acids; otherwise, the pH will not fall to optimal levels necessary for proper preservation of silage.

Vigorsile III contains specially selected strains of lactic-acid producing bacteria for the best possible performance over a wide range of conditions. Pediococcus acidilactici gives a quicker start at low temperatures and moisture. Lactobacillus plantarum are able to ferment a variety of sugars, grow well at lower pH, produce only lactic acid, and finish the fermentation.

Vigorsile III is available in both water soluble, dry granular, and concentrated forms.

Vigorsile EBL II

Vigorsile EBL II is specially designed for corn and sorghum silages and high moisture grains.

Vigorsile EBL II provides a unique combination of bacteria to produce both lactic acids and active yeast inhibitors. Lactic acid works to create a low pH level to preserve silage and reduce further dry matter loss. The active yeast inhibitors also help extend bunk life by reducing the number of viable yeasts in the fermented silage, thereby reducing the level of spoilage caused by these organisms when fermented feeds are exposed to air.

Vigorsile EBL II is available in water soluble, dry granular, and concentrated forms.
